CoWorker Projects is pleased to present three videos by Chris Bors. Bors is a New York-based artist whose art practice is based on the dysfunctional and schizophrenic identity that results from a contemporary society preoccupied by television and pop culture, as well as specific instances of mass media and underground culture.
Often focusing on obsessive personality traits, while throwing in autobiographical references for good measure, Bors’ work is intentionally ambiguous. Bors employs a variety of media including painting, video and digital collage and describes the practice of appropriating images and videos from the web as virtual dumpster diving.
Solo exhibitions include Envoy Gallery in New York City and Go North in Beacon, New York. Bors has also exhibited at MoMA PS1, White Columns and the Bronx Museum (New York), Casino Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Bahnwarterhaus (Esslingen, Germany), Bongout (Berlin, Germany) and Archimede Staffolini Gallery (Nicosia, Cyprus). Bors’ work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Time Out New York andThe Brooklyn Rail and was featured in Vogue Italia, K48, zingmagazine and PAJ. Additionally, Bors was selected for the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Swing Space Residency and Artists Space’s Independent Project Grant. Please join CoWorker Projects on April 24th for a screening of Bors’ works R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell (2008), Forward and Backward Pam and Tommy (2009) and TV Party (2008).
